The President is set to name a second Judge to the Supreme Court. Justice John Paul Stevens has announced his retirement. The nasty repubs are at it already and he hasn’t named his nominee yet and the fight begins….
Fox News
“While Supreme Court Justice John Stevens' decision to retire this summer will give President Obama a second chance in as many years to shape the high court, the upcoming confirmation battle during an election year all but guarantees that his ambitious legislative agenda will grind to a halt.”
Yeah right he can walk and crew gum unlike Bush.
Curt Levey -Committee for Justice
“If red-state Democrats have to explain to their constituents why they supported a Supreme Court nominee who favors gay marriage and partial-birth abortion and opposes the death penalty and the War on Terror, Republicans benefit. On the other hand, if red-state Democrats oppose a far-left nominee, a bruising confirmation fight is ensured. Again, Republicans benefit”.
All they talk about are abortions.
William Saunders - Americans United for Life
"The resignation comes as no surprise. Nor, I think, will Obama’s choice be. He will select someone he believes will be a reliable vote to uphold a very expansive abortion “right,” as Stevens was. Abortion was imposed upon us by what is widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. history, because it lacks any basis in our Constitution. Roe v. Wade is the quintessential example of judicial activism."
Abortions again..
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah
"I have hopes that President Obama will at least try to appoint somebody who will get a huge bipartisan vote, and if he will, he's going to go down in history as a better president," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. "If he doesn't, there's going to be a whale of a fight if he appoints an activist to the court. That's not good for him, it's not good for the Senate, it's not good for the country."
Sen. Mitch McConnell
Looking toward the hearings, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said, "Americans can expect Senate Republicans to make a sustained and vigorous case for judicial restraint and the fundamental importance of an evenhanded reading of the law."
The President is in for another fight you think he’s up for it... Oh hell yeah you know why? My man Rahm likes a good fight.
